3 Levels of Listening
Subliminal persuasion...
Advantages of Level Two Listening
-
The ability to create an intimate connection and pick up essential information about the emotions and feeling of the audience or speaker.
-
In the case of the professional translator, being able to close down external interference enables them to remain in the conversation with full levels of concentration.
-
Level two will ensure the speaker or audience feel they have your undivided attention.
-
Level two listening build your ability to anticipate the needs of your audience or speaker, enabling you to access their needs accurately.
Disadvantages of Level Two Listening
-
Level two is total immersion one-way between two people!
-
Because you have created such an intimate connection with a select few within the audience, it is likely that you will alienate other members.
-
When members of an audience become alienated due to feeling a lack of your attention they may well ask you aggressive questions at the end of the presentation in order to regain your attention.
Many presentations and sales pitches occur at level two with some success, but when you want sales excellence there is only one level to aim for - raise the bar and go for level three.
Level Three Energetic Listening
Level three is having an all embracing feeling for what is happening around you. It is a relaxed focus of attention where you engage with your intuition. Awareness and concentration is toward the dynamics beyond what is being spoken, it is in this area that new information can be obtained. An example of level three listening: would be the 'dead elephant syndrome!' Everyone is aware that there is an issue but nobody wants to address it. The energy remains there, but goes unchallenged. Think of the result if we acted upon our intuition...
Another example is the tension you feel when you walk up to a group of people and the conversation shifts or stops - dead - when you arrive. The tension that is in the air is so real, and you know that you have walked into a scenario where people did not want the topic overheard. There is always level three energy in every environment you encounter, it is a matter of tuning into the energetic field, and to achieve that you must relax and feel the sounds and energies present. For example, level three at an amusement park is very different from that of a morgue!
Level three listening is also where you listen for your impact as a Sales Executive or Leader. It is only by listening to level three that you become aware of intuitive information, that if you let it, will determine your decisions and behaviour toward accurate assessment in reading people signals. The best Sales Executives and Leaders listen for level three instinctively. You need level three listening abilities to understand and to predict the impact of your words and actions.
This is the mode of listening employed by Paul McKenna, Sales Executive's who excel in their chosen field, World Class presenters such as Bill Clinton and anyone who wants to develop Excellence in the art of Interaction. |
