Choose your thoughts and direct them towards what you desire, right now! It is this conscious choice of thinking and way of feeling that differentiates The Growth Mindset from the Fixed Mindset.
7. With Practice, Failure and Feedback You Will Make Success Inevitable
The heights by which great men reached and kept, were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Defining Practice (Habitual Development of: Technical Skill - Excellence - Mastery)
Firstly, let me say what practice is not. Practice is not repetition until something is perfect, because perfect would not be enough to Make Success Inevitable. Perfect does not leave room for improvement and development and you must always seek to improve. Practice in this context assumes dedication and drive to habitually develop Technical Skill and then... Go beyond technical skill and apply effort and commitment in developing Excellence. And then you will go beyond excellence to enter the realm of Mastery through yet deeper levels of dedication and effort.
Practice is made up of three major elements:
-
Mental Mindset
-
Physical Mindset
-
Emotional Mindset
1. Mental Mindset (Focus - Drive - Dedication - Commitment - Effort - Self Belief)
This element is about your mental focus, drive and commitment. Establishing self-belief about your technical capabilities and skill in your chosen field, and about yourself and your most basic qualities. You will apply effort in developing deeper levels of understanding about your intelligence. Continually improving your talents and developing a thirst for learning about your personality, how you act and react in situations.
You believe that your qualities are factors you can cultivate throughout your life, through dedication and effort. You acknowledge that you are fortunate to be intelligent and talented, but you believe that this is just the starting point. You understand that no one has ever accomplished great things—not Mozart, Darwin, or Lewis Hamilton—without years of passionate practice and learning.
You seek out failure as a means to improve, you believe that taking a tumble is part of the learning process and you thrive on the lessons gained. Building them into the system of dedication and effort, practice and passion, you know you will reach new heights of performance as you make mistakes. You believe mistakes make masters, not carelessness, but always pushing the boundaries of possibility to achieve the heights of Mastery.
2. Physical Mindset (Wisdom - Energy - Awareness - Gratitude)
This element is about your physical health and well-being. You have developed acute attention and awareness for the subtle physical sensations of your body. Understanding that these subtle physical sensations bring you moment-by-moment messages. These messages of wisdom, intuition and natural resources allow you to pay great attention to the shifts in your emotional state. With this wisdom you are able to address any imbalance in your physical fitness, keeping high energy levels, and ensuring that there is no detrimental physical damage or illness caused. You are grateful for your physical health and demonstrate this to your empowering mindset by keeping your commitments to yourself and paying very great attention to your well-being. |
