Making Success Inevitable

Lewis Hamilton uses this method of achievement

Beliefs have Different Strengths

The strength of a belief will determine how much it organises your future behaviour

Example: Lewis Hamilton believes he will be World Champion. Working at the unconscious level the strength of this belief will organise how he develops his practice schedules, his nutritional programme, his sleep regime and will inform all that he does, thinks and achieves. This belief will motivate him on those tough days when we all must dig deep and remember why we are striving and what for...

Performance Improvement: Because this belief is so strong within, it will compel him to drive his mental focus and behaviours with even more dedication and effort. I look forward to seeing him on number 1 podium.

Beliefs have Content

Beliefs determine your model of reality and experience, they impact how you make mental connections and drive how you feel and create the decisions you make.

Example: Lewis Hamilton knows why he wants be World Champion, and ultimately he will achieve it. Why? Because the belief that he will accomplish this goal diciplines his mindset, thoughts and feelings and that determines his actions and reactions (behaviours.) This content is mental, physical and emotional, and it will impact his mental connections and drive the decisions he makes, the good ones and the not so good.

e.g. recall now, the dejected Lewis at the end of the Chinese Grand Prix 2007. He believed that Alonso was behaving dishonourably at the beginning of the race by swerving in front of him (this belief created mental connections of unfair treatment, an important value of Lewis), so Lewis decided he would stand his ground and take the hard line to prove his point. On this occasion it caused him to loose focus on winning, and ultimately his actions lost him the Race and possibly the 2007 Championship. The stakes are high and every moment counts.

Performance Improvement: When you understand how a belief interplays with your mental, physical and emotional aspect you will begin to create beliefs that Make Success Inevitable. When situations do not result as planned, it is vital that you give yourself feedback, understand the belief or beliefs that caused the failure and build the lessons back into the system of dedication and practice. This is a crucial ability of high performers.

What should Lewis have done differently to achieve his goal on the day? Maybe nothing, sometimes it is important to stand your ground. In an interview afterwards Lewis said, 'I let the situation get the better of me and I made a mistake'. He took ownership for his actions and we know he will be back.

Rule 4 to Making Success Inevitable: When situations do not result as planned, it is vital that you give yourself feedback, understand the belief or beliefs that caused the failure and build the lessons back into the system of dedication and practice.
